Chris Halverson is married to Phyllis Hennecy Hendry. He is the father of six children and grandfather to eleven grandchildren.

  • The groups gathered weekly for private, off-the-record times of prayer, fellowship, and spiritual instruction centered on the teachings of Jesus of Nazareth.
  • Inspired by these gatherings, President Dwight D. Eisenhower inaugurated the first annual ‘Presidential Prayer Breakfast’ in 1953.
  • The event is now called ‘The National Prayer Breakfast’ and is attended by the President and his wife, the Vice President and his wife, Members of the Cabinet and Administration, Members of Congress, the Diplomatic Corps, the Judiciary, Military leaders, and people from all walks of life.
  • Prayer breakfast activities spread to over 120 nations, giving birth to countless good works through servant leaders at every level of society, reconciling people from all backgrounds and walks of life, from the highest positions to the poorest of the poor.

Career

  • Chris pastored numerous congregations in Georgia, Virginia, Maryland, and West Virginia after graduating from Princeton Theological Seminary in 1974.
  • In 1992, Sen. Robert Byrd nominated Chris to serve as Acting Chaplain to the United States Senate, an office he held until 1995.

Chris and his wife, Phyllis, live and work in Washington, DC. They come alongside elected officials and public servants to serve as trusted friends and counselors, promoting peace and reconciliation among the powerful and the powerless in the United States and worldwide. Standing with those who have influence, Chris and Phyllis seek to encourage a righteousness that exalts nations.
